1977년, 추운 날씨로 유명한 시카고에서 살아남은서바이버는 주축 멤버인 키보디스트 [Jim Peterik(짐 페테릭)]과기타리스트 [Frankie Sullivan(프랭키 설리반)]이 거의 모든 노래들을
작곡하는 성인 취향의 팝록 밴드였다. 멜로딕하면서도 호전적인 분위기를 제공한 [Eye of the tiger]는 빌보드 싱글차트 6주간 정상을 차지한 것을 비롯해그래미 록부문 최우수 그룹상 수상,피플스 초이스 어워드 최우수신곡상 수상, 아카데미 주제가상 후보에 오르는 등이 한 곡으로 거의 모든 영광을차지했다.
한편 국내에서는 이 곡이 들어있는 음반 에 수록된[Ever since the world began]라는발라드 곡이 팝팬들의많은 사랑을 받았다. 평범한 권투 영화 록키3를 한 단계 업그레이드시킨 것은
[Survivor(서바이버)]가 부른 주제가 [Eye of the tiger]다.이 곡은 스크린의

긴장감을  200% 살리면서 성공적인 흥행을 일궈내는데 견인차 역할을 했다.
